Another very challenging set of races Rick Gates showed up to race as well as Rick Laird. Greg LaPlante had to leave after trying out Cliff's boat for a race and sailing it very well. Rick Gates had issues and had to miss a race but did return. The conditions played a huge role in results. Finicky winds had boats stalled at the outer mark and had us all fighting to get to the start line on time.
There were a few knock downs and a lot of wind- at times too much. Greg came up and won with everyone chasing him for most of the day. Cliff’s boat started having winch issues and had to retire with 3 races left to go. A call was made to do 10 races as the conditions were challenging and frustrating.
Nice fall weather greeted the 8 skippers today. Winds went from zero to gusts of about 15 knots with swirlies VERY evident throughout the day. Rick Laird was sailing a brand new Pool Shark and John Lamport was sailing a new to him boat also ( Wide Body?). Position swapping happened often, several times just feet from the finish line. End of the day Cliff came out on top. Trophies for the top three places were awarded.
Just a reminder that this Saturday, September 21, is the Old Man of the Mount Footy Regatta starting at 11:00AM. The pond is clear of weeds ( has been pretty much all season) and ready. Hope to see you there.
Just because the weathermen all said we would have a nice, steady 6-8 knot breeze doesn’t mean it would happen- which it didn’t! Light, generally uncooperative breezes greeted six skippers today. On the water Cliff takes the honors with Herb and Chris tied not far behind. Tiebreaker went to Herb for second. Dave rounds out the top four. ( Note each of the top four had three wins apiece) Then came me ( Jerry ( with a new to me EC-12)) with Rick batting cleanup, who decided it was a good time to do routine maintenance while the others were on the course early in the regatta.
Nice weather and better than normal breezes, with the normal dead spots and swirlies, afforded the six skippers mostly good sailing. Racing was at times very close with position swapping the norm. Notable occurrences: Alain’s boat dead battery at the far end of the course ( Thanks Rick Gates for the rescue) and Rick Laird picking up about 20 foot of fishing line ( No… luckily he didn’t catch a fish). Note the 3 Rip Tides entered. They are scaled down from the VM boat by Jim Linville and Cliff Martin. Chris and Alain were sailing boats received from Jim’s estate.
